How To Clean Silicone Toys: A Complete Care Guide
Share
A high-quality silicone toy can last for many years with proper care.
Whether you are a first-time owner or a longtime collector, knowing how to clean, sanitize, dry, and store your toys properly is an important part of keeping them safe and beautiful.
All KUMOCOOM toys are made with platinum-cured silicone, a body-safe, non-porous material that is easy to clean and sanitize when cared for correctly.
In this guide, we'll share our recommended cleaning routine and some tips to help your favorite pieces stay in great condition.
Before Opening: Check Your Package First
Before opening your package, we recommend checking your product carefully through the transparent PVC bag.
Although every item is inspected and cleaned before leaving our studio, occasional mistakes can happen during production or shipping.
Checking the product condition before opening helps avoid misunderstandings and ensures that any potential issues can be reported promptly.
First Cleaning Before Use
After opening your package, we recommend giving your toy a simple cleaning before the first use.
You can rinse it with clean water, then:
- gently dry it with a soft, lint-free cloth
- or leave it to air dry completely
Once the toy is clean and dry, it is ready to use.
How To Sanitize Silicone Toys
Because platinum-cured silicone is temperature resistant, it can be sanitized with boiling water.
To boil your toy:
- Bring a pot of water to a boil.
- Place the toy into the water.
- Stir occasionally and make sure the toy does not directly touch the bottom or sides of the pot.
Direct contact with hot metal surfaces may damage softer silicone or affect the surface finish.
Always allow the toy to cool completely before handling.
Choosing The Right Lubricant
Silicone toys work best with compatible lubricants.
We recommend using:
✅ Water-based lubricant
✅ Oil-based lubricant

*Our Slime Stream Water-Based Lubricant is designed for easy use, easy clean-up, and compatibility with platinum-cured silicone toys.
Avoid:
❌ Silicone-based lubricant
Silicone-based lubricants may interact with silicone materials and, over time, can cause surface changes such as stickiness, swelling, or texture damage.
Because silicone toys come in many different formulations and softness levels, we recommend avoiding unnecessary risks and choosing a compatible lubricant.
Cleaning After Use
After use, we recommend cleaning your toy as soon as possible.
A simple cleaning routine:
- Rinse the surface with clean water to remove residue.
- Apply toy cleaner, soap, body wash, or hand soap.
- Gently create foam and clean the entire surface.
- Rinse thoroughly until all soap residue is removed.
For detailed designs with textures, folds, or small sculpted details, take extra care to clean those areas completely.
Dry Completely Before Storage
After cleaning:
- wipe away water droplets with a soft, lint-free cloth
- or place the toy in a clean, dry area and allow it to air dry naturally
Before storage, make sure your toy is completely dry.
Any remaining moisture or residue may affect the surface over time.
Once fully dry, store it in the included canvas pouch.
We recommend keeping your toys in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, such as a drawer or cabinet.
*Our storage pouches come in three sizes, designed to fit toys from XS to XL.
Store Separately From Other Materials
You can store multiple KUMOCOOM silicone toys together in the same pouch or storage space.
However, we recommend keeping our toys separate from products made with different materials or from other brands.
Different manufacturers may use different silicone formulations, blends, or materials. Some materials (such as certain vinyl, jelly, or silicone blends) may not be chemically compatible when stored together for long periods of time.
To help protect the surface, texture, and appearance of your toys, we recommend storing KUMOCOOM toys separately in a clean, dry place.
About Displaying Silicone Toys
We know many collectors love displaying their silicone toys on shelves or inside cabinets.
And honestly—we understand why. Some pieces are beautiful sculptures that deserve to be seen. 🥰
If you choose to display your toys as part of your home collection, we completely support that.
However, we recommend avoiding direct sunlight.
UV exposure can fade colors and accelerate silicone aging.
This is especially important for transparent and translucent silicone.
Over time, transparent silicone may naturally develop a warmer yellow tint due to oxidation and prolonged exposure to light and air. Since transparent silicone has no opaque pigments to hide these changes, the color shift can become more noticeable.
This is a natural aging process of the material and cannot be completely prevented.
*We also love displaying our favorite pieces as part of our workspace.
A Little Care Goes A Long Way
Silicone toys are designed to be durable, but proper care helps preserve:
- beautiful colors
- smooth surface texture
- sculpted details
- overall lifespan
A few extra minutes of cleaning and storage can make a big difference.
